Introducing "SCOOCH"
We think
she is a Bearded Collie mix, normally known as a "neardie".
Because of her dark tongue, most commonly associated with chows
(but also known in other breeds),
a friend on the "Bearded Collie List" coined a new
breed name:
Scooch is a "Cheerdie", which suits her very well! (Thanks,
Karen!)
This is the dog formerly known as "Abbey".
She was a stray cared for by Vickii Hart near Springfield,
Illinois.
Vickii contacted the Bearded Collie rescue organization because
she had
owned a Beardie who disappeared about two years ago.
Vickii never stopped hoping for the return of her dog
(though she has six other dogs, plus cats).
A neighbor contacted her
regarding this "shaggy dog", and Vickii took it from
there.
She took the dog to a vet, advertised for her owner,
and worked very hard to make sure that "Shag", as she
called her, was properly placed.
Vickii's aunt and a friend also helped, with the aunt paying all
expenses
(we helped some with that, of course), and the friend fostering
the dog.
It was the foster "mother" who called her "Abbey".
This sweet girl turned out
to be completely housebroken, crate-trained, leash-trained,
very gentle, a great "conversationalist" (yes, she
"talks" much more than she barks!),
an expert "counter-surfer", and, all in all, far more
than we ever hoped for
when we decided to drive 560 miles one-way to pick up a stray dog!
In addition, we discovered that she loves to ride in the car, and
does not get carsick.
She also adores having her hair (what little she has) brushed!
We have bad hair
days. I'm afraid Scooch will have a bad hair year! Vickii showed
us one of the mats that was cut off of her -
it hurt just to look
at!
Oh - you're wondering about the name?
Well, we are country dancers, and "Scooch" is a very
upbeat,
sassy line dance that we learned when we lived in Hawaii.
